In Alexandria, nurseries are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Virginia, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Check the listing for hours, seasonal closures and Google rating before you go.

Alexandria is in Virginia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Alexandria is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Virginia's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

A ton of variety, both garden, indoor/outdoor and very cute pots/decor. 3 stars for lack of any type of welcome/acknowledgement from the staff. We went on a day where their A/C was out in the main store, not their fault, but the poor cat in the store looked miserable. If you know what you're looking for, definitely a place with enough variety to find it or get started. For us, the experience was what mattered over what we bought and not a fan of keeping animals in 90 degrees humid weather for hours. Safe to say, we won't be returning to the store.

An excellent garden and plant store. Priced appropriately, but you get great quality. Staff is friendly and helpful. The best mulch in the DMV!

Great selection and friendly staff. We were very happy with our visit here. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful when I asked questions about the specific plants I wanted to plant. And the store cat was super friendly! They also have a nice selection of local jams and other goods.

Loved the trip bus trip from Greenstreet Gardens, Alexandria, to Philadelphia Flower Show. Bus ride was comfortable and staff were organized and provided helpful info and clear instructions. The Flower Show was amazing with inspiration for landscape, table decorations, floral displays and artwork. Lots of vendors of every kind.

What a superb garden store! They have so many plants, soils, compost, tools, pots, planters, water plants, decorations, organic fertilizers, etc etc etc etc! Huge selection! So many beautiful succulents and they clearly divide the perennials from the annuals which was very helpful. Finally, I must comment on the worker there. I've heard that Rue(?) is normally so exhausted from working hard that she has to take a nap. And its obvious why. She was inspecting our products, on duty as pest control, sniffing as part of her poison detection duties, patrolling the premises, making sure everything was of high quality, and probably doing many more jobs that we mere humans couldn't understand. All cats are beautiful and Rue is no exception. What a great cat. I hope she is unionized because she definitely deserves to be. What a supeeb worker!
